Exquisite",
"unique" and "dramatic "are some of the adjectives used to describe
Tina Cooper's glass sculptures.
One of the leading figures in Australian Studio glass, she uses nature
- earth, fire, water and air - to create her art, reflecting
her passionate relationship with the environment from which she sources
her inspiration.
Each
sculpture is precise in its execution. Ensuring the perfect piece
requires Tina to "dance with fire" orchestrating five highly
skilled artisans who work in unison to provide hot pieces of glass
for her to create her magic. Every part of the process is critical.
Each piece is individually hand-made from liquid currents of molten
glass drawn from a 1200c furnace and then fused,
layered and placed around a vessel.
The
"Sea Life" and "Enchanted Forest" series are full of floral and
aquatic allusions inspired from the Great Barrier Reef
and the beaches and hinterland of the Sunshine Coast of Queensland,
Australia. The "Outback" series is a highly expressive
fusion of the textures and patterns of the flora and fauna of outback
Australia. Many pieces have been made in collaboration
with Indigenous Artists. Tina has now commenced four new series
"Soul Essence", "Sea Essence", "Tribal Tribute"
and
"Sunrise" descriptions of which are detailed below.
Beyond
her technical prowess of hot glass sculpture, it is Tina's ability
to impart and leave with the observer her deeply
felt responses to Mother Nature, Life, Love and Grief.
Tina
Cooper's creations are highly sought after and can be found in collections
the world over, including Japan and the USA.

"My
journey started on a small island in the British Isles called Jersey
where castles line the horizon and the romance
of ages fills the air. My move to Australia gave me the freedom
to find and explore my creative self.
The unique Australian environment has been a major influence in
my work, combined with romance and fantasy.

Reef I have captured one of the seven wonders of the world.
Using vibrant colour and
design together with a sense of movement in the piece it gives
anyone a feeling of
exhilaration and participation with the beauty of reef life.

Very
masculine - Bold organic shapes as to be part of the landscape
itself. Once again
touched by colour and a need to express Australian beautiful
primal life at it's best.
Mother
nature at it's best using a combination of colour and free
form components of
vines, leaves and flowers and will make a statement in your
collection for any green thumb.
I
felt a need for my feminine energy to be expressed through
elegant and etherical soft
colour, using the white clouds in fan like vessels with soft
two tone leaves as if it was
supported by mother nature but also a touch of opulence as
this was created for my
exhibition for Palazzo Versace - A must for any collection.
Combination
of my etherical Soul Essence vessels and bright Sealife bases
softening
the effect of the experience. The emphasis is on the large
blown shells in the bases.
Tribal
Tribute honours the primal life force of man and woman and
the forgotten sacred
energy of our earth. The vessels honour the past tribes as
our teachers, the present as
our creation and the future as our inspiration. We now stand
at the crossroads, together
we can now heal the broken unspoken laws of nature. The message
I bring is one of
gratitude and praise for our own spiritual medicine, the unknowable
mysteries that have
been long hidden within human culture. May we now shift
our consciousness to create
our new reality. When we honour Spirit Earth peace will once
again live in our hearts.
This
series was created through the wonderful experience of an
actual one on one with
the amazing Montville sunrise. I just wanted everyone
to share in my moment and I have
always felt that we forget to stop and look around to take
in what is truly amazing.
